Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau (刘德华) is no stranger to Malaysia, given that he’s married to a Malaysian. However, it’s still surprising to many locals when he pops into town unannounced for a private event.
Earlier this week, local news outlets reported that the “Malaysian son-in-law” was recently at a Michelin restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. The news surfaced after Hide KL’s Chef Shaun Ng shared a photo of himself with Andy Lau. The captions read, “What an honour. Don’t blink, it’s not AI. Thank you for the arrival of superstar Andy Lau. That night, he really came. Andy Lau appeared at our HIDE KL in Kuala Lumpur. It was indeed an unforgettable evening.”.

The multi-faceted star wore a denim jacket paired with white trousers. His bare face showed slight signs of tiredness, but Andy still had a warm smile while posing alongside the chef. The singer was allegedly at the restaurant for a private dinner event hosted for close friends and family. However, it’s unknown if Andy was the one who hosted the get-together or if he was one of the guests.
Malaysian journalist Wong Chun Wai was also part of the dinner and shared his experience meeting the star on Instagram. In his post, the Chairman of BERNAMA said Andy is “incredibly humble and fit” and is “aging well at 63”. It’s worth noting that Shaun and Chun Wai’s posts are dated 21st April (Monday) and 20th April (Sunday), respectively, so it’s unknown when the dinner was held.

Since tying the knot to Malaysian model Carol Chu (朱麗蒨), the Hong Kong star regularly comes to Malaysia for the Chinese New Year holidays and the Qingming Festival, in addition to his official schedules. Some fans suggested that his current trip is to visit his in-laws in a low-key manner, with many saying he purposely chose to come after the Qingming Festival to avoid the crowd.
Given Andy’s busy schedule, it’s unknown whether he’s still in Malaysia at the time of writing. Nevertheless, we hope he had a great stay.
