Many Girls’ Generation/SNSD (소녀시대) fans know that Hyoyeon (김효연) is one of the busier members, often travelling to Southeast Asia for work. The idol is also very familiar with Malaysia, having visited us several times in 2024 alone.
The 35-year-old recently took to Instagram to share a few snapshots from her most recent visit to Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. It’s believed Hyoyeon took these photos in December when she was performing in these two cities. She previously shared a vlog of her time in Malaysia, where she visited Petaling Street. This new set of pictures also includes her trip to the popular tourist spot.

In the photos, the star was seen posing in front of a local cafe and some graffiti artwork in the downtown KL area. Hyoyeon also shared some pictures of the surrounding area, including one of graffiti spelling out “Kuala Lumpur”. Of course, no photoset taken in Malaysia is complete without food photos. According to her post, Hyoyeon chowed down on some butter prawns, curry laksa and a seafood dinner while in town.
While Hyoyeon didn’t share many photos of herself in Kota Kinabalu, the “Dessert” singer did share some images of what appears to be the resort she stayed at. The pictures were aesthetically pleasing, with the star highlighting the sky, the sunset and the surrounding flora. It’s worth noting that her previous vlog of her Malaysia trip didn’t include much footage of her in Kota Kinabalu, so these images are new to fans.

Many local fans have reacted to the post, sharing excitement about Hyoyeon’s Malaysian trip. Some noted how happy she looked in the photos, signalling that she enjoyed her stay. Many hoped for her to return and bring along her fellow Girls’ Generation members. Funnily, some joked that the singer should get a house here, given how often she visits.
For now, there’s no news of Hyoyeon making another visit to Malaysia anytime soon, but we’re sure she’ll return someday. In the meantime, check out her previous vlog about her time in KL:
