Younger couples are now trying unique wedding receptions that are budget-friendly while still keeping the event memorable for their guests. Recently, a Malaysian couple held their wedding ceremony at a Haidilao in Penang, complete with all the typical fixings.
TikTok user @/bryanxjean recently shared a video of their experience attending a friend’s wedding at Haidilao. According to the user, the couple is the first in Malaysia to hold their reception at the restaurant. However, reports show that this is a growing trend in neighbouring Singapore. As shown in the video, the restaurant decorated the store with wedding-themed decor, and the couple did the tea ceremony in one of the private rooms.

As for the rest of the reception, the event is a typical dining experience at Haidilao. Guests choose their ingredients, cook the hot pot meals and then indulge in the many side dishes and desserts. Additional Haidilao services like free manicures and dance routines are also available. The TikTok user said the food and service were good, as expected from the restaurant.
The unique wedding sparked interest from netizens, who mostly shared positive reactions. Many praised the idea, saying they would consider holding their wedding at Haidilao because it seemed more convenient. Some noted it’s a better deal than at a hotel because the food is delicious yet more affordable. Others said a Haidilao wedding seemed fun because it’s more casual than a typical hotel banquet.

Many netizens also asked about the cost of holding a Haidilao wedding and the expected ang pau for such weddings. Unfortunately, the TikTok user never shared these details. However, a quick search online shows that the package price depends on the number of guests. For Haidilao Singapore, their wedding package also includes decor and gifts for the couple and guests.
This wedding concept is perfect for couples with a shared love for Haidilao – but what are your thoughts? Would you attend a wedding at a hot pot restaurant?
