While Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (梁朝偉) may be one of the industry’s biggest stars, in reality, he’s a huge introvert and does the most to avoid crowds. Recently, the 62-year-old sparked interest with his interaction with Chinese actress Yan Yinan (严屹南).
The actress shared about the meeting on her XiaoHongShu account, revealing that the two met in Japan through a mutual friend. It’s reported that Tony is currently in the country to enjoy a short vacation. Yan Yinan also had the opportunity to have dinner with the star and several other friends. She continued to gush about meeting the renowned actor, noting a specific interaction during the dinner.

Through her post, the 23-year-old praised the actor, writing, “The moment he (Tony) handed over the fish, I suddenly understood the gentleness in Wong Kar Wai’s lens. People say his eyes can hold the entire galaxy, but you can only understand it when you’re next to him.” Yan Yinan also managed to pose for a photo with the actor and even shared a recording of the moment in the same XiaoHongShu post.
However, the interaction between the two when taking the photo garnered netizens’ attention, with many joking that it shows off Tony’s introverted personality. In the video, the “The Goldfinger” actor maintained a respectful distance as the two posed for the photo. While he seemed calm when Yan Yinan approached him, many quipped that his eyes were wavering when the younger star got closer.

Tony’s introverted personality and social anxiety are common knowledge among fans and fellow celebrities. Funnily enough, despite frequently visiting Japan for work and holidays, the actor chose not to learn the Japanese language. He admitted that he didn’t want to learn the language to take advantage of the communication barrier because he wanted to avoid talking to people.
It’s nice of Tony to still take a photo with Yan Yinan despite his social anxiety – and judging from her reaction, it’s safe to say she’ll cherish the moment for a lifetime. What are your thoughts on this?
