The death of Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu (徐熙媛) from influenza-related pneumonia sparked worries about the dangers of the virus. Adding to the public’s concern is the news about another young star’s sudden death due to similar circumstances.
Recently, news outlets reported on the death of 27-year-old Chinese actor Dylan Liang You Cheng (transliteration from 梁佑诚). The young star died suddenly on the second day of the Chinese New Year (30th January 2025, Thursday). According to reports, the actor felt unwell days earlier, but his symptoms were diagnosed as a common cold. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly and turned into an infection affecting his central nervous system.

Liang You Cheng was admitted to a hospital, but his condition quickly worsened. Unfortunately, the star didn’t survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital. While it wasn’t confirmed, there were allegations that the actor died from the influenza A virus. The virus poses similar symptoms as a common cold, including fever, sore throat and cough. However, in severe cases, it could also be fatal.
Since Barbie Hsu’s passing earlier this week, Chinese netizens have raised concerns about the influenza virus. While Liang You Cheng was never confirmed to have had the virus, his case was likened to the Taiwanese actress. Many also used the two stars’ deaths to raise awareness about the unexpected dangers of the influenza virus and to warn the public not to take flu-like symptoms lightly.

According to reports, Liang You Cheng made his debut in the entertainment industry not too long ago and played minor roles in several Chinese dramas, including “Echo Of Her Voice (幻乐森林)”. Given his commendable skills and good looks, many said he had a promising future ahead of him but was gone too soon. Netizens have since paid tribute to the young actor, leaving condolences on his social media pages.
We extend our condolences to the loved ones of Barbie and Liang You Cheng. May the two stars rest in peace.
