They say money can’t buy happiness. While this is debatable, there is some truth to the saying. One might think that purchasing luxury brands is necessary to feel fulfilled, but this entrepreneur believes that you can achieve the same sense of satisfaction with imitation products.
Entrepreneur Eriyca Baiduri, affectionately known as Madammu, recently hosted a livestream on TikTok where she interacted with fans while cooking in her kitchen. During the broadcast, someone asked for advice on how to handle insults for owning imitation products.

The businesswoman expressed her belief that no one should be judged or criticised for owning imitation products. She then recalled a recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand with her husband, where they saw numerous counterfeits being sold in shopping centres and street markets.
“I saw many fake Nike shoes. They cost around RM45 or RM50 a pair. Back in the day, only wealthy people wore these brands, but now, everyone can wear them—even if they are fake,” she said. The CEO of NOIR shared that she believes counterfeits provide the same sense of fulfillment as wearing genuine high-end products, explaining that people experience joy in different ways.

“Some people are happy with just imitation products, while others feel happiness after buying the real ones. But who are we to deny them that happiness?” the entrepreneur expressed. Eriyca then shared that people should be able to buy whatever they can afford without the fear of judgement.
That moment during the broadcast was reposted on TikTok, with netizens largely agreeing with her views. Some commented that the brand, whether authentic or not, shouldn’t matter as long as the products serve their purpose.
