While many international acts have announced concerts in Malaysia, a few have unfortunately cancelled their local shows. Sadly, joining the list of foreign acts cancelling their KL shows are K-pop group xikers (싸이커스) and Chinese signer Wowkie Zhang (大张伟).

K-pop group xikers announced the cancellation of their KL concert and the rest of their Asia tour just a day before the first show was about to take place. Tour organiser, Boxlive Asia explained that the cancellation was due to unavoidable circumstances, including visa issues and local conditions. The boy band was scheduled to perform in Bangkok on 17th January (Friday), KL on 19th January (Sunday), Macau on 25th January (Saturday) and Jakarta on 1st February (Saturday).

Ticket buyers will need to contact the local ticketing partner of their respective country for refund inquiries. Boxlive Asia and xiker’s agency, KQ Entertainment, also apologise for the sudden announcement. Unsurprisingly, fans criticised the organiser and agency for the last-minute cancellation. Many are also urging Boxlive Asia to postpone the tour to a later date instead of cancelling the shows.

Another international star cancelling his KL show is Chinese singer Wowkie Zhang. The star was set to perform at Mega Star Arena on 8th February (Saturday). Unfortunately, organiser GME Group cancelled the show due to concerns about overseas travellers’ safety during the upcoming Chinese New Year period. Despite that, there are rumours that the actual reason for the cancellation was related to the recent case involving Chinese actor Wang Xing.

There was a surge in concerns over the safety of Chinese citizens in Southeast Asia after the actor was kidnapped while in Thailand. As such, it’s believed Wowkie Zhang’s agency cancelled the Malaysian concert following the demands of Chinese parents concerned about their children’s safety. However, there is no news on whether the singer will cancel his 2nd February (Sunday) concert in Singapore.

Ticket holders for Wowkie Zhang’s KL concert can obtain refunds through the platforms from which they purchased the tickets. It’s disappointing that fans of xikers and Wowkie can no longer see their idols, but we hope the group and the singer will consider returning to Malaysia.
