Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been on an official visit to South Korea in the past few days. As such, the premier has been sharing updates of his trip on social media – but his accompanying song choices have caught the attention of local K-pop fans.
Datuk Seri Anwar has shared several posts on his official Instagram account regarding his visit to South Korea. As the social media platform allows users to include songs on their carousel posts, it seems the Prime Minister – or at least his account admin – picked some K-pop music to accompany his posts. As shown in screenshots, the songs chosen were Super Junior’s (슈퍼주니어) “Sorry Sorry”, Girls’ Generation’s (소녀시대) “Gee”, BTS’ (방탄소년단) “Dynamite” and Zico’s (지코) “Any Song”.

Funnily enough, the songs accompanied posts on serious topics, such as the Prime Minister’s meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol (윤석열) and his speech at the Malaysia-Korea Business Forum 2024. A quick scroll through the Instagram page also revealed that this may be one of the rare instances of the premier using pop music on his social media account, making the situation more amusing.
Many Malaysian K-pop fans have since reacted to the posts, obviously tickled by the song choices. Some said they approved the picks, as all are tracks from notable singers who have contributed to the “Hallyu Wave”. Meanwhile, others are jokingly asking for PMX’s account admin to share a peek at their K-pop playlist, hoping to find another common ground with the anonymous individual.

It’s worth mentioning that the music is only available on the Instagram mobile app and not the web version, so check out the posts on the app to hear the songs. Regardless, what are your thoughts on the song choices?
