Malaysians are no strangers to doing whatever it takes to try out new products that go viral on social media. Especially with food, many are willing to sacrifice their time to queue up if it’s something unique or hard to make at home.

Recently, a local vendor went viral for serving a familiar yet upgraded dish—Maggi instant noodles, transformed into a more elaborate meal. Since gaining buzz on social media, curious locals have been lining up, even late at night, just to get a taste.

The business, known as Maggi Malam on TikTok, has become popular for serving Maggi noodles as the main ingredient, accompanied by scrambled eggs as a signature topping. Customers can also add various extras, such as crispy chicken, sausages, and beef bacon, with prices between RM8 and RM15. True to its name, Maggi Malam operates only at night, from 6pm until they sell out, at Caltex Titiwangsa. This spot has quickly become a go-to late-night hangout for young locals looking for supper.

While it seems like a unique business idea, netizens have criticised the concept of selling instant noodles at a marked-up price, questioning why people would choose to queue up for Maggi rather than simply making it at home. Many pointed out that it reflects a trend in Malaysian culture to hype up anything that is currently on trend, fearing they’ll miss out, even if it’s not truly worth it.

On the other hand, some positive comments showed support for the local business, praising the appeal of selling simple yet satisfying food that attracts customers. Others even noted practical reasons why people might buy it, such as avoiding the hassle of cooking and washing dishes afterwards.
