If you plan on travelling to your hometown this coming Deepavali, here’s some good news! The Works Ministry has announced toll-free travel in conjunction with the festive celebrations!
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the toll-free travel will be available from 12.01am on 29th October 2024 (Tuesday) until 11.59pm on 30th October 2024 (Wednesday). The free toll will provide the Indian Hindu community with ease of mind for travelling costs as they return to their hometown to celebrate Deepavali. Of course, non-Hindus and multiple highway users can enjoy the free toll as well.

The toll-free travel will only apply to private vehicles (Class 1) and be implemented on all highways, except tolls at the country’s border. This includes the Sultan Iskandar building (North-South Highway) and Tanjung Kupang (Malaysia-Singapore Second Line Expressway) toll plazas in Johor. Datuk Seri Alexander has advised those taking advantage of the free toll to plan their commute wisely and to obey all the relevant rules.
As traffic jams are to be expected during the implementation of the free toll, travellers are urged to follow the travel time advisory (TTA) to ensure a smooth journey. In addition, ensuring your vehicle is in good condition and your Touch ‘n Go card and e-Wallet have sufficient balance will also help reduce the risk of congestion on the road.

Road users can also check the traffic status on social media before and during their trip to plan for alternative routes if needed. We hope those travelling to their hometown for Deepavali will have a smooth and safe trip. May you have a joyous festive season!
