2024 has been a standout year for each BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) member’s solo career. From Lisa’s (리사) show-stopping performance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2024 to Jennie’s (김제니) debut solo single under her own label, Odd Atelier, they’ve consistently made headlines with their individual projects.
Now it’s Rosé’s (로제) turn to amaze fans. Recently, she’s been the talk of the town after dropping her hit single “APT.” featuring Grammy award-winning singer Bruno Mars on 18th October. The song quickly achieved a Certified All-Kill, topping all major streaming platforms in South Korea.
In a recent interview with Z100 New York, Rosé shared how she managed to get the legendary Bruno Mars featured on her song. The BLACKPINK member revealed that she discovered she was a Bruno Mars fan after attending his concert in Seoul last year. When she found out that Bruno was signed to the same label as her, she took a chance and requested a collaboration with the “Uptown Funk” singer.
“He asked me to pitch three songs, and I thought, ‘This is not going to happen,’ but just the fact that he was even going to listen to those three songs was huge,” explained the “On The Ground” singer. When the 27-year-old artist introduced the concept of “APT,” which is a Korean drinking game, Bruno was blown away by the idea and loved it. “I remember we freaked out, like, ‘What is happening?’ and the rest is history,” Rosé concluded with excitement.

Following their collaboration, there have been several moments where Bruno Mars has tried speaking and using Korean words, delighting fans. In addition to Bruno saying “Geonbae” (which means “cheers”) in the song, Rosé recently posted a video on her Instagram where she taught him how to say, “I hope you enjoy ‘APT.’” in Korean. Though the 39-year-old singer’s pronunciation wasn’t perfect, he managed to entertain both those around him and fans online. What made it even more hilarious was Bruno’s own comment under the post, saying, “I’m in my Oppa era and I love that for me.”
What do you think of their collaboration?
