When you think of 80’s cinematic horror, your mind first gravitates to the slasher flicks that dominated the era. However, amongst that genre’s sea of supernatural humans with mystical powers, one alien (well, their chest) burst through the scene, spawning the iconic franchise which is now celebrating its 45th anniversary.
On the flip side, back in 2015, a video game borrowed the formulaic structure of slasher flicks, which resulted in the most interactive and beloved horror game of its time. Now, we get to experience a rare instance where the past meets the present, and you can read all about it right here.
“Alien: Romulus” Arrives In VHS
Out of all the horror film series that have graced the big screen, the “Aliens” franchise is perhaps one of the most enduring of all time. It has brought us some of the most memorable monsters and horror sequences for almost half a century. Now, with the latest entry, “Alien: Romulus,” upon us, the filmmakers have decided to give a special treat to those dedicated fans who fell in love with the franchise since day one.
Bust out those VCRs because “Alien: Romulus” is coming to VHS alongside other physical media. This exciting tea (well, exciting to those who like collecting ancient tech) was unveiled by the film’s very director, Fede Alvarez, during “a special Beyond Fest-partnered screening” in Los Angeles over the weekend.

This fully-functioning VHS tape is meant to celebrate 45 years since the “Alien” franchise first arrived in theatres. In an email written to The Verge from 20th Century Studios, it was revealed that the VHS format will be in a 4:3 aspect ratio (just like the old days), while the VHS itself will come in a vintage sleeve. The box art was done by Max Furgeson who later shared a wider version of the images on his Instagram, which any “Aliens” fan would want on their wall.
But 20th Century Studios did not mention how many copies of the limited-edition tape will be available, or how much it will go for. Regardless, we can’t wait to watch this awesome flick, 80s style!
“Until Dawn” Gets Movie Adaptation

2015 was a weird time for gaming. The PS4 was only two years old and most games made for it felt more like films than video games. One of those games was none other than “Until Dawn,” an interactive survival horror drama game.
For those unfamiliar with the plot, “Until Dawn” follows a group of teens who visit a family lodge located deep in the mountains for a party. What they don’t know is that the year prior, during previous festivities, it was the site of a horrendous prank that resulted in two of their friends going missing. And rather than party, they are instead assaulted by their past crimes.

It was a contentious game when it was first released, with many pointing out that it had more quick-time events than traditional gameplay. However, from a narrative perspective, it was a groundbreaking experience that has since become a cultural phenomenon and is still loved to this day. It was a game that people learnt to love over time, and because of that, it became worthy of receiving a film adaptation.
The upcoming movie’s director, David F. Sandberg, has confirmed that filming has wrapped up. Not only that, he has also given us a date to look forward to — 25th April 2025 — putting it four months ahead of the game’s 10th anniversary. The cast is a star-studded lineup, and includes Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare. This is the latest project for PlayStation Productions, which was also involved in the making of other works such as HBO’s “The Last of Us,” Peacock’s “Twisted Metal,” and the Sony features “Uncharted” and “Gran Turismo.”
