In today’s world, it’s a constant struggle for many to make ends meet, especially when their income barely covers basic expenses. This forces some to overwork themselves, even at the cost of their health. Unfortunately, overwork can sometimes lead to tragic consequences.
Such was the case for 32-year-old e-hailing rider Ahmad Farhan Othman, who tragically passed away on 2th October 2024. The news was first reported by Sinar Harian earlier this week. Ahmad had previously gained attention through a viral TikTok video posted by the account @/mrbeast_malaysia, which featured a social experiment where a RM50 note was placed on random individuals who might need extra income. The video, intended to capture Malaysians’ reactions, quickly went viral, garnering over 125,000 likes and 2.9M views. In the video, Ahmad was seen confused but grateful, rushing to thank the influencer after discovering the note.

Ahmad, a father of three, worked tirelessly to support his wife and children. According to his wife, Nursuziliana, he often worked more than 12 hours a day, juggling two jobs. Every morning, he left home at 7:30am to drop off his kids at school before starting his first job as a Grab rider, which he began in September. He drove until 5pm and then continued delivering food until late at night, often working until 8am the following day.
After his passing, a postmortem revealed that 75% of Ahmad’s heart was blocked, a condition likely worsened by the extreme demands of his work. Following his death, the viral video of Ahmad’s interaction with @/mrbeast_malaysia resurfaced, sparking an outpouring of condolences from netizens. Many praised him for his kindness and hard-working nature, while the comments section was filled with prayers for his soul.

Through tears, Nursuziliana shared her husband’s loving advice to their children, reminding them to always look after each other and their mother. She described Ahmad as a hard-working, friendly, and responsible husband who was deeply loved by many. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ahmad’s family and may his soul rest in peace.
