Thankfully, some stars separated on good terms, and their respect for their now-former partner earned them well-deserved praise. From homegrown actress Emma Maembong to rap royalty Kanye West, here’s a rundown of all the stars who announced their separation in October 2024.
Emma Maembong & Muhammad Shazli Azhar
Local actress Emma Maembong shocked fans when she announced her divorce from pilot Muhammad Shazli Azhar on 7th October 2024. Adding to the public’s surprise, the actress revealed that the pair had separated for months as she had already completed her iddah (waiting) period by the time of her announcement. The two tied the knot in 2020 and had two sons, Shariq Gabriel, aged 4, and Shakil Aryan Shah, aged 1. Through her Instagram, Emma said she and Shazli separated on good terms and will continue to co-parent their kids.
T-ara Jiyeon & Hwang Jaegyun
K-pop idol Jiyeon (지연) also announced her separation from her baseball player husband, Hwang Jaegyun (황재균), in October 2024. According to reports, the T-ara (티아라) member and the athlete filed for divorce mediation in September after two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as their reason for separation. However, there were allegations that Hwang Jaegyun was unfaithful to the singer towards the end of their marriage. Days after her divorce announcement, fans saw Jiyeon crying at her first public event, prompting T-ara fans to shower the singer in support.
Halle Bailey & DDG
After three years of dating, actress and singer Halle Bailey announced that she and rapper DDG will go their separate ways. The two started dating in 2021, and the “The Little Mermaid” star gave birth to their son in 2023. Halle and DDG never addressed the reason for their split, but the latter said the two would continue to co-parent their child. Before the announcement, there were already rumours that the two were no longer dating after fans noticed that they had unfollowed each other on Instagram and had deleted their pictures from their feed.
Kanye West & Bianca Censori
Kanye West and Bianca Censori’s relationship has been controversial since they secretly tied the knot in 2022. However, rumour has it that the two are planning on divorcing. According to reports, the American rapper and the Australian architect have privately announced their split but haven’t publicised it. There isn’t a reported reason for the separation, but Kanye allegedly wanted to divorce because he wanted to be single and move to Japan. Bianca also works for the troubled rapper as the Head of Architecture at his company, Yeezy.
Jofliam & Cik Epal
Local influencer and entrepreneur Jofliam also split from his partner, Cik Epal, earlier this month. The pair officially called it quits on 9th October (Wednesday), ending their 10-year marriage. The divorce reportedly stemmed from allegations that Jofliam was having an affair with his employee, but the pizza shop owner denied the claims. The pair have two children from their marriage, Han and Yuki, whom the two parents will likely share custody of and co-parent.
Baim Wong & Paula Verhoeven
Indonesian actor Baim Wong is also heading for divorce from his wife, actress Paula Verhoeven. The actor is “determined” to end their six-year partnership after they failed to resolve their marital dispute amicably. Unfortunately, the cause of the separation was Paula allegedly having an affair with Baim’s best friend. The “Di Sebalik Kasyaf” said he had been contemplating divorce for over a year and revealed that the pair lived separately for the past seven months. The couple have two children together, Kiano and Kenzo.
Que Haidar & Linda Jasmine
Malaysian actor and director Que Haidar surprised the public when he announced his separation from renowned Malaysian choreographer Linda Jasmine after 15 years of marriage. Many were surprised as there were no previous rumours of marital problems between the two public figures. Adding to the public’s shock was that the pair had separated in July 2024 but belatedly announced the news on 27th October (Sunday). Que never disclosed the reason for the separation but said he and Linda will remain close friends and co-parent their daughters, Tengku Ratu Haidar, 15, and Tengku Cleopatra Haidar, 12.
Diana Danielle & Farid Kamil
On 28th October 2024 (Monday), American-born Malaysian actress Diana Danielle dropped a bombshell on fans, announcing her intention to divorce husband Farid Kamil – again. The pair previously separated in August 2023 but got back together by the end of same month. While Diana never explained her reason for seeking another divorce from Farid, this time, she seemed set on separation. The celebrity couple got married in 2012 and share two children together, Muhammad, aged 11, and Nur Aurora, aged 9.
