We’ve got some exciting news for Studio Ghibli fans in Malaysia! Singapore-based mm2 Entertainment recently announced they’re partnering with Studio Ghibli to rerelease Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved classics to multiple cinemas across Malaysia!

The distribution company shared the great news on their social media, igniting excitement amongst local Ghibli fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the distribution deal will see mm2 Entertainment rereleasing 21 Studio Ghibli films and rescreening them at selected local cinemas for a limited time. There is no news of the complete list of movies yet, but expect crowd favourites like “Spirited Away”, “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “My Neighbour Totoro”.

Besides Malaysia, the mm2-Ghibli distribution deal will also happen in Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Cambodia. Unfortunately, there isn’t information on when or where the movies are screening, but mm2 hints that the rerelease will go live later this year. Nevertheless, fans are already thrilled by the news and are eager to catch their favourite Ghibli movies on the big screen.

In related news, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is also partnering with the iconic animation studio for their “Symphonic Ghibli” concert. The orchestra concert is scheduled for 15th and 16th November 2024 and 5th and 6th December at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS. It will feature soundtracks from seven different Studio Ghibli films, all originally composed by the one and only Joe Hisaishi.
