Boarding a plane can be unsettling, especially with the alarming incidents involving flights over the past few years. Even the slightest unusual action on board can easily trigger panic among passengers.
Earlier today (Thursday, 3rd October), passengers on a Firefly flight with registration 9M-FYG, en route to Penang, experienced an unfortunate event when the plane suddenly filled with smoke due to a malfunction in the air conditioning system. As a result, the flight was forced to make an emergency U-turn back to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

“According to the pilot report (PIREP), the fan failure caused the air-conditioning system in the flight to overheat, leading to smoke fogging in the cabin area,” stated CAAM chief executive officer, Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud. He added that several other factors might have contributed to the incident, which are currently under investigation. Fortunately, no one was injured during the event, and all passengers were safely evacuated to the SAAS airport terminal.
A short video posted on Facebook by one of the passengers showed the situation on board. The caption revealed that the flight had been only 15 minutes into its journey before it was announced they had to return to Subang. The incident naturally sparked concern among netizens, with many expressing relief that everyone involved was safe.
