Overnight, movie fans went berserk as movie studios dropped some exciting trailers and even deleted scenes for us to chew on. And we’re here to unpack it all so you don’t have to.
From awesome tidbits of information to exciting future film ideas, here’s what’s happening in the world of film.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” (Spoilers Ahead!)
It’s undeniable that “Deadpool & Wolverine” is the hottest movie of the year after amassing a staggering US$444.1 million (~RM1,928,948,350) in its opening weekend alone. And why wouldn’t it have? Everyone’s favourite Merc with a Mouth teams up with Hugh Jackman’s iconic Wolverine in an epic theatrical event. But they weren’t the only heroes making their appearance in the film.
We mentioned in an old article that the movie would see Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra, with Channing Tatum making his first appearance in the MCU as Gambit. But the flick was packed with so many cameos overall that we can’t name them all unless we have a dedicated list.

In the climactic final battle, Reynold’s Wade and Jackman’s Logan join forces with Garner’s Elektra, Tatum’s Gambit, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Dafne Keen’s X-23 to take on Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova and her forces in the Void. The battle was going in the heroes’ favour until Alioth arrived. By the movie’s end, some heroes were seemingly lost, save for X-23 who was brought back from the Void to reunite with Logan, but the other three remained missing.
That was until Reynolds dropped a “deleted scene” (sources conflict if this was deleted or not) from the film that shows Gambit walking over the aftermath of their fight in the Void. He then turns to the camera with glowing eyes and smirks, then the scene cuts to black. But sharp-eyed viewers soon noticed the portal opening in the lower right corner of the screen, a portal that was made famous by Kamar-Taj’s sorcerers and Doctor Strange. This fact is further strengthened by Reynolds’ caption of “*whispers* Marvel Sparkle Circle.”
When asked about it in an interview with Collider, Reynolds said: “I think at that moment, if I had to guess, he’s definitely still in the Void. But there’s something that’s happening in that moment that maybe no one knows yet.” He later deflected this tease by saying, “You never know. I mean, literally, I could never be in another Marvel movie again, and it wouldn’t surprise me because I’ve had it in my hand before, and it’s gone away. I’m always grain-of-salting it, but I’m hoping that Kevin [Feige] will allow me in.”

Long-time Marvel fans know that Channing was supposed to play the card-slinging character in a standalone, but those plans were scrapped when Disney purchased 20th Century Fox. As Marvel was preoccupied with expanding its interconnected multiverse, we might have never seen him become part of the MCU, which made his official debut in the franchise in “Deadpool & Wolverine” all the more special.
Channing went on X to thank Reynolds for his inclusion in the recent MCU hit. “I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he [Reynolds] fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. ‘Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me.”
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Finally! After months of waiting and teasing, the first official teaser of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is here. As most fans predicted, the big baddie of the film is none other than Shadow the Hedgehog. The film features beloved actors from the previous film, such as Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles. Jim Carry returns as well, but this time playing a dual role as both Eggman and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
The teaser shows how the two previously-hostile factions work together to take down Shadow, a new threat portrayed by none other than Keanu Reeves! Additionally, the trailer also reveals the main plot or driving force of the film, as Sonic is told that Shadow has a very similar story to Sonic. But where Sonic “found family and friends, Shadow found only pain and loss,” causing our latest antagonist to go on a global rampage.
If you owned a PS2, Gamecube, or original Xbox in the early 2000s, you may have noticed that the movie is very similar to the 2005 flick “Shadow the Hedgehog,” in which the title character has the option of siding with the bad guys or being the hero. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the game’s story, multiple endings, and original take on the typical franchise made it a fan favourite among gamers. If the film is anything like the game, then the question remains: what ending will this third instalment choose for both new and old fans alike?
We mentioned previously that Carrey will be pulling double duty in this film, as he will also be playing Eggman’s grandfather, Gerald, as Gerald created Shadow in his mission to unlock the secrets of eternal life. If the video game’s story is anything to go by, then we can expect to see Maria Robotnik, a pivotal character in Shadow’s character arc who is also Eggman’s cousin. In addition, Maria plays a significant role in the video games, so it would not be shocking if future film instalments feature her more (if the movies would continue to borrow story beats and elements from the games, that is).
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is expected to hit the big screen on 20th December.
