Love may not cost a thing but it certainly wasn’t enough to save this marriage. After months of speculations, it has now been reported that singer Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from husband, actor Ben Affleck.
According to an entry on the Los Angeles Superior Court docket, the two stars will officially be going their separate ways. CNN reported that the “Papi” singer filed to end her two-year marriage yesterday (Tuesday, 20th August), the same date as the couple’s Riceboro, Georgia-set wedding ceremony back in 2022, after they eloped a month prior.
This latest news confirmed previous rumours that the celebrity couple have been living separately. Word was going around that the “Gone Girl” actor bought himself a new home and was not present during Jennifer’s 55th birthday. Fans have speculated that the two stars have tried to work things out as the singer was recently spotted leaving her husband’s house on his 52nd birthday amidst their ongoing issue.
Sadly, it’s evident now that their marriage could not be saved. The reason for their divorce was never specified. According to BBC, the court documents say that both parties must disclose any changes to their financial situation “until there is a final agreement about all financial issues in your case”. At the time of writing, neither Jennifer nor Ben have issued a statement about their separation. After looking through her Instagram, the “Atlas” star has yet to delete photos of her and her soon-to-be ex-husband together.
Fans were divided after the news broke out. Those who ship “Bennifer” were obviously devasted that their favourite couple is no longer together while others commented that they saw this coming. This marks the second time Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck split up. The two first met on the set of “Gigli” and later got previously engaged in 2002 but called off their relationship two years later.
It’s unfortunate that the marriage didn’t work out but we hope there was no intense argument or altercation that led to the dissolution. We wish both Jennifer and Ben nothing the very best for the future.
