Last month, it was rumoured that “Blackwidow” star Florence Pugh secretly filmed a scene where her character Yelena Belova jumped off the Merdeka 118 tower in Kuala Lumpur for the upcoming MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie “Thunderbolts”. Her sister, voice actress Arabella Gibbins even posted a photo that they were in KL, which further added to the speculations.
However, many have taken this news with a grain of salt since there was no sighting of the British star or filming crew in the city at the time. After a recent interview, it has now been confirmed by the Marvel actress herself that filming did take place in Malaysia. Here’s what she said:

Earlier this week, Variety Magazine attended the 2024 Comic-Con International: San Diego event where the media outlet interviewed several actors and actresses starring in future MCU projects and one of them was Florence Pugh. The interviewer asked the 28-year-old about the biggest stunt she’s done for the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie which is slated for a 2025 release.
The British celeb quickly answered, “Jumping off the 2nd tallest building in the world, bye!” before making her exit. Of course, this caught many Malaysian fans’ attention who were all very excited to know that the rumours were true since Merdeka 118 is ranked as the 2nd tallest building in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Numerous fans reacted to the interview saying how eager they are to watch the skydiving scene on the big screen.

With all that being said though, it is also possible that the Merdeka 118 scene may not actually take place in Malaysia. There were a few fans who speculated that the skydiving scene may be set in the fictional region of Madripoor, located off the coast of Indonesia near Malaysia, according to the comics.
This is purely speculation for now so we’re still hoping that Malaysia or at least KL is mentioned in the “Thunderbolts” movie. Are you excited to see Florence Pugh performing her heroic stunt at Merdeka 118?
