Celebrities have to always be careful with what they say or how they say things but even so, sometimes it can be taken out of context. Many would immediately address the situation to avoid further misunderstanding but sadly, that didn’t work out all too well for this content creator.
Singaporean TikToker Wendy Cheng, famously known as Xiaxue, caused quite a stir after a video of her went viral in Thailand. The clip was of her answering a fan’s question on why Singaporean men are so attracted to Thai and Vietnamese women to the point that they’d cheat on their partners with these women, which was taken from her recent appearance on the Ladies First YouTube channel.

In the original video, the influencer said that men have more control over women who work as sex workers from come from “less well-off countries” saying that men get to dictate how these women should live their lives. The original video has since been taken down but the damage has already been done. A reposted version of that particular moment has been circulating on social media in Thailand and received heavy backlash from Thai netizens.
Over the weekend, the content creator took to TikTok to apologise for the controversy. “The video was taken out of context due to editing. I was not talking about all Thai girls but only Thai sex workers. If you are a sex worker maybe don’t watch this, you will find it offensive lol,” she wrote in her captions. In the video itself, the internet personality said, “If you’re Thai and you felt hurt or attacked, I’m sorry and that’s not my intention.” She further emphasised that she does not look down on Thai women but rather on the men who think they are superior to those who work in the sex industry.

Despite her explanation, many were not so convinced by her apology saying that the more she tried to explain herself, the worse it got. Others warned her about going to Thailand any time soon in case some people there recognised her from her controversial video. There were also those who questioned why she didn’t apologise to Vietnamese women as well.
Xiaxue has yet to respond to the backlash she received for her apology video. Watch her explanation below and tell us what you think. Was she right or should she have just apologised without explaining herself too much?
@xiaxue A clarification for my new found Thai fame 😅 TLDR: the video everyone was angry about was taken out of context due to editing. Was not talking about all Thai girls but only Thai sex workers. If you are a sex worker maybe don’t watch this you will find it offensive lol ⠀ But whatever la lao niang is a cancellation veteran. Quite funny most of the hate comments are going like omg you are old, you are ugly etc. Eh ok is telling me I’m old supposed to hurt me like hello I’m 40?? Your mother at 40 got look like this not please? Already not bad ok? Secondly, I don’t know why people persist on telling me I’m ugly like have u seen my pre surgery pics? It’s a remarkable feat to upgrade to this state. What more do you guys want? Anyway I think I’m Chio lah so I’m impervious to your insults, feel free to contjnue. 🤣 #xiaxue #thailand #thai
