It seems that Good Vibes Festival can’t catch a break. Yes, it’s deja vu. Yesterday (Monday, 1st July), it was announced that this year’s Good Vibes Festival has officially been cancelled in view of the Agong’s coronation. Although many were previously skeptical about the festival’s comeback, no one could actually have predicted this to happen.

The event was supposed to take place at Resorts World Awana from the 20th (Saturday) to 21st July (Sunday). After the devastating cancellation of last year’s event, everyone has been looking forward to this one but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. Fans are obviously upset but we’re curious to know how the performers reacted to the announcement. Here’s what we’ve gathered (so far):

1. Spooky Wet Dreams

Local act Spooky Wet Dreams were supposed to play GVF this year for the first time. The band took to Instagram to share the news with fans saying, “[We’re] devasted after learning about the cancellation of Good Vibes Festival. We were all geared up for a special set, but unfortunately, luck isn’t on our side (heh)”.

The genre-fluid group expressed their gratitude to the event’s organisers for doing everything they could to make this festival a success. The band reassured fans that although their big gig is cancelled, they can still catch them at the next one and announced a new single is on the way.

2. lost spaces

Malaysian singer lost spaces expressed that he is gutted to hear the news about the cancellation. Apart from reposting the event’s announcement post, he also shared a screenshot of a Tweet by fellow musician DANGERDISKO that reads, “It’s becoming increasingly exhausting being a musician/performer/event organiser/showrunner in Malaysia. If it’s not dodging religious or political zealots or some hot issue shutting your showdown, it’s something else. We spend too much time and energy just trying to exist.”

3. Russ

American singer-rapper Russ, who was supposed to perform on Day 1 of GVF, took the time to let his fans know that his upcoming performance in Malaysia is cancelled. Taking to Instagram, the “HANDSOMER” artist urged his disappointed audience not to blame the event’s organisers and promoters as the cancellation was out of their control.

4. The Filters

This local math rock band was supposed to take the stage on Day 2 of the event but sadly, their time to wow the crowd never came. The Filter posted on their Instagram story to apologise to fans about the cancellation. “Thank you everyone for their well wishes,” the band wrote.

5. FUAD

Siblings Lisa and Arief tweeted the announcement about the cancellation. In their post, although the duo is disappointed to hear the news, they thanked the GVF team for giving them the opportunity to be featured as one of the lineups for this year’s (now-cancelled) event.

“We were excited to bring a fresh new take for our set on the big stage but unfortunately, the odds weren’t in our favour. On a more positive note, we are cooking up a new single in our kitchen, coming sooner than you think! So keep an eye out!” the band wrote.

6. Talitha Tan, Emo Night KL, Force Park Bois, Bad Mob, Saint Kylo, Shelhiel

Some local and international acts didn’t say much about the cancellation but they did, however, share GVF’s announcement post on their Instagram Stories to deliver the bad news to their respective fans.

The status of Good Vibes Festival is currently up in the air. Will we get to enjoy Malaysia’s biggest music festival? Guess we’ll have to wait next year to find out.
