It can be embarrassing to mistake a person for someone else – especially when you’re mistaking a celeb for another! Recently, a man shared the moment when his friend thought he met Chinese actress Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) – only to find out it was local radio DJ Emely Poon (潘毖伶).
Facebook user Cambenny Cambenny recently shared a video recording of the conversation with his friend. The friend believed that he had met Fan Bingbing, who is currently in Malaysia, but one look at the photo clearly shows that the woman was not the Chinese actress. In response, Cambenny joked that the woman was not Fan Bingbing but instead a “Kopi Bing (Kopi冰/iced coffee)” version.
The video then caught the attention of netizens, who quickly realised that “Kopi Bing” was actually MyFM DJ Emely Poon. The radio personality then commented on Cambenny’s video, showing her amusement. It seems that Cambenny felt apologetic for making fun of the public figure, even offering to treat her to a meal to say sorry. Thankfully, Emely doesn’t seem offended by the joke because it looks like she’s fully embracing her new nickname.
Since the video went viral, the radio personality has referenced her new nickname in her posts, including one where she was drinking iced coffee. Emely also referenced the Kopi Bing nickname when posting photos of her in a pink kebaya, also a reference to Fan Bingbing, who wore a pink kebaya set during her meet and greet in Melaka.
Many netizens have shared their reaction to Emely’s antics, mostly amused that the star accepts her new nickname with open arms. Some also praised the radio DJ for being a good sport and not letting Cambenny’s innocent joke get to her. Of course, many fans also showed love to Emely, saying they’re huge fans of “Kopi Bing”.
It’s refreshing to see a star not be affected by a joke – so kudos to Emely for not letting an honest mistake affect her!
