Love is in the air as Matty Healy, frontman of The 1975, has proposed to his stunning model girlfriend, Gabbriette Bechtel. The news broke when Gabbriette was spotted wearing a large black ring on her finger, which she shared on her Instagram story with the caption, “MARRYING The 1975 IS VERY BRAT,” seemingly nodding to Charli XCX’s new album.
After the story was uploaded and fans went wild, the model posted another story showcasing her ring, which appeared to be taken the same night after Charli’s gig. The frontman, initially posting memes, eventually reposted the model’s story to his own, further confirming the news.
Now begs the question, how did these two lovers come about? They were first seen together on 5th September 2023, walking around New York and sharing a passionate kiss. Gabriette shared with E! News at a DeLéon Tequila event that the two bond over their love for food and similar music tastes.
Since then, the newly engaged couple has been attending parties and events together, including a New York fashion show party hosted by SSENSE, where they were photographed with the caption “Best dressed couple.” Their relationship was no secret with the couple frequently posting each other on social media and the lead singer’s mother, British television presenter Denise Welch, posted a selfie with the lovebirds on Instagram and captioned: “Lovely to have the family in to see mum at work!!!”.
Previously, Taylor Swift fans have also been speculating if her recent album “The Tortured Poets Department” was about her brief relationship with Matty Healy back in April 2023. Though unconfirmed, it is widely speculated that the controversial vocalist was the inspiration behind several tracks on her album. When asked for his opinion on the “diss track”, the UK singer responded with “My diss track? Oh! I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good”.
Despite the drama and speculation, we wish nothing but happiness for the newly engaged couple. From being the best-dressed couple to showing off the beautiful engagement ring, it’s clear that these two, are madly in love.
