It seems that another one of our local talents continues to shine on the international stage! Nickelodeon has recently unveiled the nominees for their annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA) ceremony – and local singer Iman Troye was nominated for “Favourite Asian Act”!
The 22-year-old will go up against four other Asian acts (Korean idol group ENHYPHEN, Filipino boy band SB19, Japanese girl group NiziU and Indonesian singer Tiara Andini) for the award. The “Favourite Asian Act” award is a regional category awarded to the best Asian performer as chosen by voters and fans. The winner will be revealed during the Asian broadcast on 17th July 2024 (Wednesday).
Iman’s nomination isn’t all that surprising since she’s known as a rising star in the Malaysian entertainment industry. Her debut single, “Teman”, has over 58 million views on YouTube alone and charted well on various local radio stations. The singer, whose real name is Siti Nur Alyssa binti Sahabudin, is also known for viral hits like “Pejam Celik Hari Raya” and “Nang”. She was also one of the few Malaysian artists featured on a billboard in Times Square through Spotify’s EQUAL campaign.
Iman isn’t the first homegrown star to receive a nomination from the iconic awards ceremony because singer Shila Amzah and content creator JinnyBoy were also once nominated for the award in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Athlete Pandelela Rinong also got nominated for the “Favourite Asian Sports Star” award in 2016. Local content creator Aqil Zulkiflee also made headlines last year when he won “Favourite Creator (Asia)” at KCA 2023.
Fans can vote for their “Favourite Asian Act” through the official KCA (Asia) website starting today until 13th July 2024 (Saturday). Good luck to Iman Troye and the rest of the nominees!
