We’ve heard many instances of a celebrity’s house going viral on social media. Recently, the home of legendary Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat (周润发) received quite the attention online – but for reasons you might not expect. A XiaoHongShu user recently posted about the house in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, piquing netizens’ attention with the property’s backstory.
According to the post, Chow Yun Fat purchased the mansion in the 1990s for around HK$14.7 million (approximately RM8.85 million). He allegedly purchased it as an investment but currently uses it as his primary residence with his wife, Jasmine Tan (陳薈蓮). Nevertheless, the purchase proved its worth as the house is now allegedly worth HK$300 million (approximately RM180 million).

Unfortunately, the user didn’t explain the reason for the property’s increase in value, but it’s likely due to the location. The mansion is located on Cumberland Road, a street notable as the address of the late Bruce Lee (李小龙). Kowloon Tong is also considered the most exclusive area in Hong Kong, equivalent to Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. Other famous figures who reportedly lived on Cumberland Road include actor Charles Heung (向華強) and feng shui master Li Kui Ming (李居明).
This isn’t the first time netizens have shown interest in Chow Yun Fat’s house because the mansion previously went viral for not appearing as luxurious as many had expected. The house is reportedly a simple white building surrounded by lush greenery and tall fences. However, many fans noted that the property reflects the owner as Chow Yun Fat is famously a humble star despite his status. He once was photographed fixing a gate on the property, showing that he does the maintenance work for the house.
The Cumberland Road mansion is just one of Chow Yun Fat’s many properties, which he purchased as investments. He and his wife are rumoured to have a collective net worth of up to HK$ 5.6 billion (approximately RM 3.37 billion) thanks to their multiple properties and stock. Despite that, Chow Yun Fat famously said that the couple would donate all their assets to charity after their death.
