For die-hard fans of the series, or those who have been keeping tabs on its creators, you’d know that this isn’t the first time the titular characters are showcased with an anime coat of paint: in two separate mini episodes on their official YouTube channel, we’ve seen Rick as a samurai killing doppelgangers of himself. Since then, fans have been clamouring for more, and it seems that the studio is granting their wish.
The promotional teaser for “Rick And Morty: The Anime” takes us to a foreign planet where an alien spaceship is shot down by a missile. Moments after the shuttle crashes, the planet’s population rushes out in droves to witness what has happened. As the camera slowly pans to Morty, the locals hail him as the planet’s hero.
The video immediately jumps to a thriving metropolis celebrating its independence. The city is also adorned with the faces of Morty, ranging from holograms to banners and even figurines. Before the teaser ends, a radio announcement states that “Space Morty, otherwise known as Morty Smith, is to be recognised as an honorary citizen at the independence ceremony…”

“Rick and Morty: The Anime” is set to premiere before the year ends and will be available for streaming on Adult Swim and Max.
Spider-Man Noir
After lending his voice to the 2018 smash hit film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Nicholas Cage Is set to reprise his role for a live action interpretation of the wall-crawling private detective.
Once again, if you’ve had your ear to the ground for all things comic or anime related, then you would’ve heard whispers of Marvel expanding their reach to their “Noir” universe, something Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, confirmed. News of plans for “Noir” first broke last year, but Cage’s involvement was, at best, speculated.
“The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.” — Vernon Sanders.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the storyline or who Noir will fight, but what we do know is that the story explores “an ageing and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”
Comic Book Movie also reported that Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) are co-showrunners and developed the series with Lord, Miller, and Pascal, who will executive produce the series.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
