The Jovian Mandagie label is a prominent name in the Malaysian fashion industry, known for its line of modest wear and fashionable face masks. However, the brand and its parent company, Jovian Mandagie Group Sdn Bhd, have officially announced the end of its run after 17 years.
The devastating news was shared yesterday (9th May 2024, Thursday) by founder Datuk Jovian Mandagie via his Instagram account. In his post, he announced that he is pausing operations for the Jovian Mandagie Couture brand and the Jovian ready-to-wear line. He added the two brands will officially close in two weeks, before the end of May. According to the Indonesian-born designer, the closure comes after realising his desire to explore new opportunities, particularly as a businessman.
Through the announcement, Jovian also took the opportunity to thank his team, partners and the public for their support over the last 17 years. The 38-year-old also announced a closing sale at all Jovian stores (JStore) and on its online site. However, this doesn’t mean a complete end to the brand. Jovian said there is a high chance for his couture and ready-to-wear lines to return to the fashion scene someday but shared no details about it.
Following the news, fans of the brand flood the comment section to show support and send their well-wishes to Jovian. Public figures like actress Lisa Surihani, who collaborated with the brand twice, and designer Alia Bastamam, who designed for Jovian Mandagie before founding her label, also share their reactions to the closure. Jovian’s ex-wife, Nina Sabrina Ismail Sabri, showed love for the designer and his new future.
Jovian launched his ready-to-wear line through the First Lady boutique in 2012 and found instant success with the line. His Jovian Mandagie Couture label was also well-loved by numerous stars, including Daiyan Trisha and Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza. It’s sad to see a prominent name leave the Malaysian fashion industry – but we wish Datuk Jovian all the best for the future.
