Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat (吴埙阀) and Shevon Jemie Lai (赖洁敏) embarked on their journey on the badminton court, where they initially forged a formidable partnership. Over time, their bond transcended beyond sports and turned into a deep connection that led to love – love for sports and love for life.

Their union was celebrated on Saturday, 4th of May at La Serre, The Chateau Spa & Wellness Resort in Bukit Tinggi. The newlyweds were surrounded by loved ones and members of the badminton community. On his Instagram post, Shevon described their wedding day as a magical day with everything falling seamlessly into place, including the beautiful weather that added to the joyous occasion.

Having played mixed doubles together since 2016, the athletes’ relationship reached new heights when they got engaged in the Maldives in December 2022. For the 30-year-old female badminton player, Soon Huat isn’t just her perfect badminton partner but also her soulmate. She expressed her appreciation towards him in an Instagram post, recalling how he planned to propose to her.

As national badminton players, their guests would also be badminton players. Among them were fellow national badminton players, including their mixed doubles coach, Rosman Razak, former Indonesian women’s doubles player Greysia Polii, Olympic women’s doubles winner and South Korean player Chang Ye Na, and Sudirman Cup champion. Malaysian players Vivian Ho, Goh Liu Ying, Ong Yew Sin, Goh V Shem, and others also graced the occasion with their presence.

If you’re curious to see how the ceremony went, you can check them out on Shevon’s Instagram account under the Wedding highlights. The duos’ partnership extends beyond the court as they went through moments of anxiety and fatigue in the process of preparing for their marriage but they supported each other. Their radiant presence together reignites faith in love, inspiring onlookers. We extend our heartfelt wishes to these newlyweds for a lifetime of happiness and love.
