If there’s one thing people shouldn’t do, it’s to bring up tragedies in comedy skits or even in a song. We all knew what happened to a certain comedian after she made an insensitive joke about the missing MH370 flight which claimed the lives of over 200 passengers.
Despite the controversy making headlines globally, it seems that one rapper didn’t get the memo and decided to include the devastation in his new single. Rapper Drake recently released a new song titled “The Heart Part 6”, which is said to be a diss track against Kendrick Lamar and Malaysians aren’t happy with some of the song’s lyrics.
Snippets of the Canadian musician’s latest diss track went viral on social media and what caught netizens’ attention was the part when he rapped, “I’ll slit your throat with the razor and do Rick Ross Air like that one flight from Malaysia”. Although it was not specified, it can be assumed that he was referring to the MH370 flight that went missing a decade ago. Obviously, this has upset many of his fans, especially those from Malaysia.
As seen in the screenshots below, netizens took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction about the 37-year-old’s new song, calling him out for being insensitive for including the MH370 tragedy in the lyrics. Many questioned his decision to write such verse which had nothing to do with his beef with Kendrick Lamar. Others brought up the previous incident of the last person who made an insensitive remark about the missing flight.
At the time of writing, Drake has yet to address the overwhelming backlash on social media for his poor choice of lyrics. As for what prompted the “Degrassi” star to even write the diss track in the first place, it all started when Kendrick dissed the “Hotline Bling” artist on Big Sean’s “Control” back in 2013 and they’ve been going at each other’s throats ever since.
