An end of something can mean a new beginning of things, a truth exemplified by former DOLLA member, Syasya Rizal when she announced her marriage upon her departure from the group. Recently, the idol posted a handwritten letter on her Instagram page, made simply to thank her fans for their relentless support as well as addressing the rising speculations made by netizens in regard to her decision.
However, the impact of her post prompted Rozie Othman, acclaimed actress and grandmother to Syasya, to share her thoughts on the matter during an interview on Melodi. The TV producer admitted to initial speechlessness when learning the news but eventually conveyed her congratulations and well wishes to her granddaughter, albeit tinged with a sense of disappointment. She expressed concern over the timing of Syasya’s marriage, occurring amidst the pinnacle of her fame.
According to the actress, she was on a pilgrimage to Mecca at the time and had no idea about whatever was unfolding back home. Yet, she mentioned how she hoped for Syasya to create a name for herself by maintaining modesty and femininity. Rozie Othman believed that this decision made by the singer was perhaps a silver lining like how Syasya and her husband will continue their studies overseas soon.
The 62-year-old added that initially, Syasya never wanted to leave the group, knowing well that it was her granddaughter’s dream to become a celebrity. Despite her reluctance to part ways with the group, the contractual obligations notably stipulated by Universal Music Malaysia dictated that marriage would terminate her professional engagement.
In correlation to that, the “Berani” singer mentioned in her letter how none of this was a breeze for her to decide either yet she had to choose eventually while recognising the inevitable disappointment it would evoke among her admirers. “I know that a number of fans are hurt by this decision but truthfully, it pains me more in needing to face the fact and fate” she wrote.
The entirety of this matter had fans flooding her comment sections with heartfelt messages as a means to comfort her. Among them, fellow DOLLA member Angel commented, “Hope you’re doing well, miss you”. A few netizens remained in denial of her decision but a subset of fans defended Syasya against any negativity.
