While Malaysia may be home to a melting pot of cultures and traditions, it’s always interesting to see what the traditional wedding of a foreign culture looks like. Recently, former local radio DJ May Lau shared photos from her Nepalese wedding ceremony, delighting fans with a look at her husband’s culture.
The public figure, known more familiarly as May子, married Palden Moktan, her Nepalese boyfriend of more than three years, in November 2023. The pair met while May was in Nepal for a trip, following her 2017 divorce from her first husband. The pair previously had a Chinese-style wedding in December but also decided to hold a traditional Nepalese wedding in Palden’s hometown in Kathmandu.
In celebration of the ceremony, May flew her family and closest friends, local celebrities Cheryl Lee (李欣怡) and DJ Yin (盈盈), to Nepal. Through her Instagram, the public figure shared photos and videos of her wedding, which was held in an event hall. May and Palden both wore the traditional wedding attire while the guests wore Nepalese clothing. According to Cheryl, the dress she and the guests wore, the bakhu, was custom-made for each guest.
In one of the videos that May shared, the guests were seen giving their blessings to the bride and groom by presenting them with a scarf. Another blessing ceremony involved guests sprinkling the couple with rice as they expressed their happy wishes for their marriage. May also thanked her guests for going to Nepal to complete the ceremony, adding that the guests seemed to have a good time with the locals.
May also shared a video of the guest dancing at the wedding so it’s safe to say that they also had a great time at the ceremony. We also want to wish May and Palden congratulations on the marriage and a lifetime of happiness and blessings.
