Have you ever eaten from a deep bowl of hot pot? If so, then you can attest to how delicious and fun this Asian meal can be. Similar to Korean BBQ, hot pot is a communal dining experience best enjoyed with friends and family over a large bowl of hot broth flavored with various food ingredients.
While the origin country of hot pot is debatable, studies have shown that Chinese poet Zuo Si mentioned Sichuan hotpot in his poem “Rhapsody of the Three Capitals” (dating back to when he lived from 250 – 305).
With Sichuan-born chef Justin Song currently managing Sichuan Kitchen, diners can experience the spice and richness of Sichuan-style hot pot when they dine in at Four Points by Sheraton KLCC (at Jalan Ampang).
Diners at Sichuan Kitchen can select 2 types of soup base from a selection of its signature broths such as Sichuan Mala, Abalone, Truffle Mushroom, Coconut Chicken and Tomato. The Sichuan Mala is one of the highlights here, but those with low spicy tolerance can opt for the mild and hearty abalone broth or the umami tasty truffle mushroom broth. If you’re in the mood for something sweeter, the tomato broth is a good option.
While you wait for the hot pot soups to boil, head over to the vegetable section and select your favorite greens from a lineup of baby cabbage, shinmei mushrooms, choy sum and nai pak. The seafood spread has fresh prawns, red snapper fillets, squid slices, and clams, while the meat spread includes beef rolls, lamb rolls, and spicy sliced chicken.
In addition, dinner guests will get to indulge in extra premium picks such as scallops, sliced beef, sliced lamb leg, plus Sichuan Kitchen’s signature fresh fish paste. You can pair these ingredients with some carbs (minute noodles, yee mee, and vermicelli).
After your meal, be sure to reserve some space for a plate of fruits and enjoy the restaurant’s specialty sweet treats like Sichuan ice jelly. While some may have the price tag a tad steep, you’re definitely getting the value of money from the fresh food available and diverse options.
Sichuan Kitchen’s Weekend Hot Pot Buffet is priced at RM168 nett per person on Friday and Saturday (6pm – 10pm) and RM138 nett per person on Sunday (12pm – 3pm).
