If you enjoyed watching Hong Kong movies from the 1990s, you may be familiar with actress Sharla Cheung Man (張敏). The now-56-year-old actress was once the it-girl of 90s Hong Kong and was particularly known for being film legend Stephen Chow’s on-screen love interest. While the star has since faded from the limelight, her supposed current state has gotten netizens talking about her again.
Recently, a Weibo user posted about Sharla, writing, “Sharla Cheung Man is almost 60, right? Middle-aged and elderly actresses are often out of shape but it’s okay, as long as they were brilliant in the past.” Along with the post were photos of the actress during her prime and two photos that seemed to be taken from a recent interview.
In the photos, the individual believed to be Sharla appeared to be extremely thin, wearing a black tube top and black beret. This is a stark difference from the 90s icon’s younger self as she was known for her voluptuous figure. Unfortunately, the source of the photos was not disclosed so it can’t be verified the identity of the individual. Nevertheless, netizens shared their shock over Sharla’s current appearance.
Many said Sharla looks older than she is, while others say she looks sickly. Some also wondered about her health because of her extreme weight loss. However, some noted that the former actress was already skinny as shown in photos from recent years. Despite her appearance, some pointed out that she still seemed energetic while being interviewed. Interestingly, some comments theorise that the individual may not even be Sharla.
After experiencing peak stardom as an actress, Sharla branched out into producing but saw little success. The star then slowly retired from acting to focus on other business ventures. While she does appear on social media occasionally to update her fans on her current life, Sharla prefers to live a low-key life. It was reported that the former actress now lives in Thailand by herself.
