For years, Sammo Hung (洪金寶) has been a figure of strength in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. He’s known for his martial arts skills, working alongside fellow martial artists Jackie Chan (成龍) and Donnie Yen (甄子丹). However, the 72-year-old has since moved away from acting due to his declining health and restricted mobility.
Recently, Sammo’s health became the topic of netizens’ conversation after a fan bumped into him at a grocery store in Shenzhen, China. According to the fan’s post on XiaoHongShu, they were at a Costco when they spotted the film icon. They noted that Sammo was alone but had no issues shopping and purchasing items. The fan also said they were excited to see him in public but only looked at him from afar because they didn’t want to bother him.
However, in the photos shared, Sammo could be seen using a motorised wheelchair to move around. It’s known that the star has issues with his knee and even got surgery in 2017 to help with his condition. Some fans also noted that Sammo had a bandage around his knee, leading them to question the condition of his legs. Many also wonder about his health, given that he’s using a wheelchair to move around in public.
The photos show a huge difference from his recent appearance at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards last Sunday (14th April). Sammo had received the Lifetime Achievement Award and appeared to have no issues walking on stage to accept his trophy. Despite the concerns about his health, some fans noted that he often uses a wheelchair, likely to lessen the burden on his knees. Others also said deteriorating health is part of ageing but wished Sammo good health and a long life.
Like the netizens, we also hope Sammo is doing well and is taking care of himself.
