After weeks of anticipation, the Chinese idol survival programme Chuang Asia Thailand (创造营亚洲2024), a.k.a Produce Camp Asia 2024, has announced the top nine contestants – and Malaysian contestant Elyn Leong (梁愉苓) has made her country proud by placing at an honourable fifth place. The influencer will join eight other contestants and debut in the upcoming RYCE Entertainment girl group, Gen1es (pronounced Genies).
The Chuang Asia Thailand finale was broadcast live on 7th April (Sunday) and even trended on Twitter. Over 500 million votes were cast for the nine winners through the WeTV application, showcasing the popularity of the contestants. 21-year-old Elyn raked in 49 million votes, placing her fifth out of the 70 contestants. However, she has always been the top choice throughout the show, regularly placing within the top nine.
When Elyn’s name was announced as one of the debuting members, the Malaysian thanked her fans in three languages – Chinese, English and Thai – flaunting her linguistic skills. In her speech, she said, “Thank you to my fans for allowing me to debut and thank you to the program team for giving me the stage to show myself.” She also thanked her parents in the audience before giving a final bow to the crowd.
The contestants who made it into the final ranking of Chuang Asia Thailand are, in order of ninth place to first, Emma (朱艺蒙), Didi (娣娣), Xueyao (雪瑶), Wang Ke (王珂), Elyn, Yean (ยีนส์), Pailiu (ไผ่หลิว), Ruan (琉杏) and Qiao Yi Yu (乔一魚). The group’s agency RYCE Entertainment is also home to singers Jackson Wang (王嘉爾) and Amber Liu (刘逸云). While the agency is based in China, Gen1es will be active in Thailand. The group will make their first performance in May at the upcoming Fansland Music Festival in Bangkok.
Congratulations to Elyn and the rest of Gen1es on their debut! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these talented girls!
