It’s normal for fans to gift their idols something special like wish cards or fan art during meet and greet sessions. However, if there’s one thing we learn about most celebrities, it’s that they’d prefer fans to not spend so much (or any) money on unnecessary things just for them.
With the Raya celebrations just around the corner, it’s understandable why some would want to give an international celeb duit raya as a souvenir before they depart but this Thai artist’s reaction to being presented with such a gift got everyone tickled. Here’s what happened:
Thai actor-singer Archen “Joong” Aydin (อาเชน ไอย์ดึน) was recently in Kuala Lumpur for the grand opening of the Saint Laurent (YSL) outlet at The Exchange TRX. Prior to the event, he was spotted at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) where he was surrounded by loving fans while being escorted to his vehicle by his security team. One fan tried to get close to him to hand him an envelope saying, “Joong, I want to give you duit raya!”.
The Thai artist cheekily replied, “But I’m already rich!” which took the pursuing fan by surprise. The interaction was then posted on TikTok by user @/horangyeon and it quickly went viral. Fans were mostly amused by the encounter where many suggested that the fan should’ve been the one to ask for duit raya from the celeb rather than giving it. Others were entertained by the 23-year-old’s response to the fan wanting to give him money.
If you ask us, the fan should’ve asked Joong for his autograph instead so she could framed the signed duit raya as a momento. Regardless, we’re sure she was happy enough to see her idol up close in person. Would you give duit raya to a celebrity?
