In the blink of an eye, we’ve come to the second half of Ramadan – which means Hari Raya is just around the corner! If you haven’t started your Raya prep yet, now is the prime time to hit the malls to get your envy-inducing Eid outfits and stock up on ingredients for your Mubarak meals.
Of course, if you’re already in a mall, why not check out all the stunning Raya decor on display? This year, tons of Klang Valley malls have gone all-out to bring shoppers an exciting Raya experience with their creative decorations. From Sunway Pyramid to Suria KLCC, here’s our pick for the 11 malls with the most remarkable Raya decor:
Sunway Pyramid
Sunway Malls welcomes the ‘Gaya Giang Raya’ celebration with a Moroccan-inspired concourse to liven up the festivities. For their adaptation of the theme, Sunway Pyramid took over their Orange Concourse to embellish it with a wondrous array of resplendent shades to resemble a modern Souk, or marketplace, commonly found in Northern African and Middle-East regions. Sunway Pyramid’s decor begins with a Moorish-designed arch that transports visitors to an artsy marketplace with flat roofs, desert palms and carpets. The mall also partnered with local artist Nas Suha for the stunning mural set up at the concourse.
Sunway Velocity Mall
Following the Moroccan-inspired ‘Gaya Riang Raya’ theme is Sunway Velocity Mall. The mall transformed its interior into a bustling Souk, combining the beauty of a traditional bazaar with stylish decoration to create an exuberant atmosphere. The vibrant Moroccan-inspired bazaar comes alive with booths adorned in intricate designs and vibrant fabrics, offering a lively ambience. These spaces are designed to encourage interactive engagements and serve as picturesque backdrops for photo opportunities among shoppers.
Sunway Putra Mall
Sunway Putra Mall also brought forth joyous festivities for the Ramadan and Raya seasons with the ‘Gaya Riang Raya” campaign. One step into the mall, and you’ll instantly enter a world of vibrant celebrations and immersive experiences. The Main Concourse on the Ground Floor is transformed into a captivating Moroccan Souk-style bazaar, adorned with contemporary motifs and Islamic architecture, offering a unique twist to traditional festivities.
Melawati Mall
Adopting the theme, ‘Fabulous Floral Raya’, Melawati Mall has transformed its Meranti Court into a festive site adorned with stunning floral arrangements and stage decorations inspired by Arabian architecture. The timeless motifs combine with modern elements to create a picturesque backdrop for shoppers to snap their Instagrammable shots for social media during this festive season.
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shines bright for its ‘Radiant Raya’ celebration, capturing the beautiful history of Malay textiles, culture, and the beauty of crystals. In partnership with renowned jewellery brand Swarovski, Pavilion KL welcomes the festive occasion with an early celebration of Hari Raya with a grand pop-up. From the twinkling stars to the giant crescent moon displayed in the Centre Court, every detail sparkles with splendour. Shoppers will have the opportunity to marvel at the stunning crystal decorations around the Centre Court, including four vibrant installations in the shape of an octagon, the emblematic Swarovski symbol.
Avenue K Shopping Mall
This year, Avenue K Shopping Mall shines its brightest with its ‘Magnificent Mubarak’ campaign. Transport yourself to a world of illumination featuring geometrical patterns, intricate designs and contemporary Islamic motifs. Sparkling stars, crescent moons and gold Arabic lanterns guide your path to the spectacular centrepiece – the giant golden star archway surrounded by ornate structures. In addition to the gold, the pure white and mahogany brown provide a warm glow that lights up the festive season.
The Exchange TRX
For its first-ever Raya campaign, The Exchange TRX pays homage to the beauty and splendour of the Raya season with the ‘Magnificence of Raya’ – a visual and experiential spectacle showcasing Malay culture, tradition, and art. Upon entering, you will be greeted by decorative elements at the entrances and throughout the interior of The Exchange TRX. The giant installation at TRX City Park is inspired by a dish synonymous with Raya – the humble ketupat. At the Central Exchange, the grand kampung house is a stunning manifestation of traditional Malay architecture, design, and motifs. However, the star element of the campaign is the Malaysian batik, headlined by the nationally venerated Bunga Raya.
The Gardens Mall
This year, The Gardens Mall’s décor is inspired by Arabesque patterns and designs with beautifully curved arches and intricate carvings in the surrounding structures that cast elaborate shadows. Feel free to admire the myriad of colours that fill the mall – from the traditional glazed tile motifs to the glimmering glass lanterns. As Raya is about giving back to the community, The Gardens Mall also make their decor an opportunity to showcase the talents and skills of the children from Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun (PKKTB).
1Utama Shopping Centre
1 Utama Shopping Centre is excited to unveil this year’s Hari Raya theme – ‘Hikayat Sang Perantau’. The concept highlights the cherished traditions and intricate craftsmanship of Pantai Timur’s famous Wayang Kulit, Perahu Kolek, and Wau Bulan. A serene Kampung Nelayan sets the mood for a glimpse into the traditional way of life in a charming coastal fishing village, complete with a jetty at GF Centre Court, where a 15ft Perahu Kolek is magnificently perched. Throughout the space, coconut trees sway gently in the breeze, enveloping shoppers in the coastal charm of Pantai Timur. Catch a glimpse of different types of Malaysian kites at the Wau Bulan showcase, featuring Wau’s from different regions of Malaysia to tell the story of cultural artistry and the significance of Malaysia’s rich legacy.
Suria KLCC
This Raya, the city’s most iconic experiential shopping destination, Suria KLCC, transformed its Centre Court into a distinctly Malaysian garden with bougainvillaeas, palm trees, and other local tropical foliage and blooms. Nestled within this idyllic setting stands the traditional ‘Rumah Kampung’ elevated on stilts, creating a focal point steeped in nostalgia and showcasing Malaysia’s rich artistry and cultural heritage. The scene is adorned with traditional woven crafts, making it the perfect backdrop for your Raya OOTD pics. Of course, no Suria KLCC decor would be complete without a stunning display at the Esplanade KLCC. This Raya, the mall had installed a larger-than-life 60-ft Pelita, recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records in 2022 as the ‘Biggest Lampu Pelita Replica in Malaysia’.
Fahrenheit88
This year, Fahrenheit88 introduces the most scent-sational Raya celebration! The mall partnered with Bath & Body Works to present the ‘Scents of Raya’ campaign. Immerse yourself in the mystical garden adorned with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and twinkling lights reminiscent of fireflies. One step into the enchanting garden brings a magical experience you won’t want to miss! Located right in the middle of the mall is the giant metal Ketupat sculpture crafted by Mohamad Kasat, an artist from Sarawak. This metal Ketupat sculpture weighs 117kg and is made out of recycled metals and vehicle parts with a commitment to environmental sustainability.
