Malaysian actor Soo Wee Seng (苏维胜) is best known for his crosstalk comedy and has been acting in Singaporean TV dramas since five years ago. Well, apparently his dedicated performance has shortlisted him for Singapore’s MediaCorp 2024 Star Awards (红星大奖2024)!
MediaCorp recently announced its finalists for the 2024 Star Awards and a surprising group of names has made it onto the list. However, most eyes are on the “Top Ten Most Popular Male and Female Artistes” category which Soo Wee Seng has made it on this year.
A total of 94 finalists have been shortlisted for this year’s Star Awards, consisting of 46 female artists and 48 male artists. All 94 of them will be competing for a spot in the top ten during the awards ceremony which is to be held on 21st April, following their new contest rules.
Soo Wee Seng himself shared the good news on his Facebook yesterday (18th March) with a delighted post. “Thank you everyone for the opportunity!” he started. “Soo Wee Sheng has been shortlisted for Singapore’s MediaCorp’s 10 most popular artists! Being shortlisted is an affirmation.”
He urged fans to vote before the ceremony, garnering support and congratulatory messages from fans in the comments. The actor and comedian has been hard at work with dramas such as “The Sky is Still Blue (从零开始)” and “Family Ties (家人之间)” over the past year, resulting in him qualifying for the award.
Alongside Soo Wee Seng, Taiwan’s popular host Matilda Tao (陶晶莹) has also been shortlisted for the award. An additional award, the Most Popular Rising Stars, which was started in 2023 will also be continued this year with a total of 42 finalists.
Congrats to Soo Wee Seng! Him being shortlisted is certainly an achievement on its own. Still, we wish him all the best for the award and hope he’ll continue working hard.
