10th March was a monumental day for Chiap Hong Mini Mart (捷豐迷你超市) founder, Dato Teh Chiap Hong (郑洽丰) and his family. After all, it was the day they held a wedding banquet for their son, Teh Wei Xin (郑炜焮) and his wife Candy Lim (林玉欣)!
Almost half a year after Teh Chiap Hong’s son and daughter-in-law officially tied the knot, a wedding banquet was held in their honour yesterday. The blowout event had over 6000 guests with domestic and foreign politicians, Hong Kong stars, and Indonesian badminton legend Taufik Hidayat in attendance.
Clearly, Dato Teh Chiap Hong (郑洽丰) and his family went all out for Wei Xin and Candy’s special day yesterday, held at the square in front of the Tian Gong Tan Temple at Alma, Bukit Mertajam. Reportedly, the banquet was held there to publicize and promote the temple as an attraction. The large tents set up for the banquet were well decorated with flowers, fairy lights and photos of the couple, depicting their love story.
Their family and friends were in attendance, all there to celebrate Candy and Wei Xin’s matrimony. Reportedly, the Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution hosted the wedding reception, to the delight of the crowd. Other ministers, such as the Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Chief Minister of Penang Chow Kon Yeow were also there to give their blessings to the couple.
Numerous celebrities and artists were also at the wedding banquet, including several Hong Kong stars. Celebrities like Chan Wai-Man (陈惠敏), Marco Ngai (魏骏杰), Penny Chan (陈国峰), Andrea So (苏韵姿) and Ashley Chu (朱智贤), among others, were spotted at the banquet, with some guests even taking the opportunity to get photos with them. Indonesian shuttler and former World and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat was also present at the event, to the delight of some badminton fans who managed to get his autograph.
Dato Teh Chiap Hong reportedly spared no expenses in ensuring the wedding banquet was perfect, both for his son and daughter-in-law, and for his guests. The Chiap Hong Mini Mart founder allegedly prepared over 100 hotel rooms for his guests, 30 Vellfire SUVs and buses for transport, all to ensure his guests could be comfortable for the wedding. Additionally, he contracted five different caterers to serve both Chinese and Malay food at the banquet.
Reportedly, the tents, the main stage and 600 tables were set up a week before the wedding. The tents took up the main roads and required 50 volunteers and police to guard the area and to help maintain order. With all the preparations involved, it was no wonder he took three to four months to prepare the banquet.
This isn’t the first time the Chiap Hong Mini Mart founder has demonstrated such selfless generosity. In fact, he’s reportedly formed and maintained good relationships with many thanks to his penchant for being charitable. For his part, Dato Teh Chiap Hong also expressed joy that his friends from all over the world could make it. “I would like to thank them for their support along the way and (for) taking the time to attend (my) child’s wedding banquet,” he reportedly said.
Their guests too enjoyed the wedding, with many stating they were honoured to have been invited. Datuk Seri Saifuddin was also delighted to have been given the honour of hosting the wedding feast. He described Datuk Teh Chiap Hong as “a friend who shares weal and woe” and publicly wished the couple well during his speech. “I am very touched by the scene tonight,” he said, referring to how the wedding banquet has brought everyone together.
As for Datuk Teh Chiap Hong, he too was overjoyed the Minister of Home Affairs was able to attend the feast. Reportedly, he claimed he was very touched the minister had not only taken the time out of his busy schedule to come, but had also accepted his request to host the banquet.
Well, it certainly sounds like Dato Teh Chiap Hong’s son Teh Wei Xin (郑炜焮) and his newlywed wife Candy Lim had a wonderful time at their wedding banquet last night! We too would like to offer our congratulations to the newlywed couple and wish them all the best for the future.
