They say all good things must come to an end – and after 15 years in operation, GSC 3 Damansara will be closing its doors. Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Sdn. Bhd. recently announced the devastating news through their social media accounts.
According to the notice, GSC 3 Damansara will conduct their final screening on 17th March 2024 and cease operations on 18th March 2024. The cinema opened its doors to customers on 20th June 2009, when 3 Damansara was known as Tropicana City Mall. GSC served as one of the mall anchor tenants alongside NSK Grocer. In the notice, the cinema also expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received from customers over the years.
Many Malaysians have reacted to the news, devastated that they could no longer visit the cinema. Most netizens said the 3 Damansara mall outlet is their favourite because it had the best ticket prices and the cinema boasts great halls, particularly the kid-friendly PlayPlus hall. The post also got many reminiscing about their memories at the cinema, including when they watched their favourite films.
However, many locals also noted that the closure was inevitable given the state of the mall. Some said that 3 Damansara have seen a decrease in visitors over the past few years, and other tenants like ACE Hardware and AEON Big have ceased operations for their outlets in the shopping centre. Others say that GSC has already made an effort to draw in crowds by renovating their halls, but it seems like their efforts did not bring any more visitors.
Even after the closure of GSC 3 Damansara, movie buffs can still catch the latest releases at the nearest GSC outlets at Starling Mall, Paradigm Mall, 1Utama Shopping Centre and Tropicana Gardens Mall. How do you feel about this news?
