With all the waves Malaysia has been making in the world, we’d hope that people would at least recognise the country. Unfortunately, not everyone is as well versed with Malaysia as we’d hope.
Recently, a Malaysian had been walking around in the United Kingdom when someone from a talk show approached her to guess her country of origin. Despite her clues and hints, the host clearly struggled, leaving Malaysian netizens rather disappointed.
TikToker teach.ak.some recently approached a young Malaysian who was wandering the streets, somewhere in the UK. “Tell me where you are from, without telling me where you are from,” he challenged.
“I think we have the tallest twin tower in the world,” the lady started. “(The) Petronas Twin Towers.” She also shared that Malaysia has a variety of races and cultures, making it a diverse country. Of course, she mentioned our local food, nasi lemak and name dropped Siti Nurhaliza as one of our celebs. She also added hints such as the KL Tower and TRX Exchange.
The host tried his best to guess, narrowing it down to the right area at least. He mentioned the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. When the lady tried to give him another hint, describing Malaysia as “another Singapore”, the man got very excited, before she burst his bubble, stating that she was from Malaysia.
While netizens were disappointed he struggled to guess Malaysia, a few weren’t happy with the clues the lady gave. “Best to say Michelle Yeoh as (a) famous person from Malaysia,” one comment advised. “Hello, Dato Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding?” another asked. Others praised her English, while a few opined that the host knew, he was simply pretending not to.
Well, hopefully TikToker teach.ak.some has learned some new things about Malaysia, as has his audience. Perhaps he’ll even visit one day to see and experience Malaysia for himself.
