The Kuala Lumpur Sentral, a.k.a. KL Sentral, is Malaysia’s largest transit hub and is the centre for Kuala Lumpur’s integrated rail transportation system. However, despite welcoming hundreds and thousands of daily commuters, many are unaware that the KL Sentral even houses a food court – or it used to.
The KL Sentral Food Court recently announced that it will cease operations starting 1st March. The food court was located on the 3rd floor of the transit hub and is the go-to spot for many looking for another eatery option in the area. In their Instagram post addressing the closure, the food court management thanked the public for supporting the establishment over the years.
While there was no mention of why the food court was closing, many attributed the closure to the lack of customers. Due to the location of the food court and its distance from the building’s centre, many visitors would have to go out of their way to visit the establishment. KL Sentral is also directly linked to the NU Sentral shopping mall, which offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, so most visitors would prefer to visit the mall rather than the food court.
However, a Twitter post suggests another reason for the lack of customers. Twitter user @/zamrinmohamad shared about the food court’s closure, voicing his disappointment over the news. Shockingly, most of the comments on the post were from netizens who weren’t even aware of the existence of the food court. Many said they didn’t know about a food court in KL Sentral despite frequenting the building for their daily commute.
