Winning the grand prize of a contest is a dream come true but one should also be careful about where or who the prize money ends up going to as it could do more harm than good. A lucky teenager became the winner of a lucky draw but the host had to step in after finding out about his decision for the prize money.
A video posted by user @/hermanali87 on TikTok showed the Jom Santai Food Festival, organised by clothing brand Choii, that was held over the weekend where comedian Achey Bocey, or simply Achey, was one of the hosts. During the lucky draw, 1 teenage boy managed to bag home the grand prize, which was a Nissan GT-R R35 sports car. However, the young man surprised many with his reaction.
The winner asked if he could trade the car for money. This then opened the floor for anyone in the audience to buy the sports car from the lucky boy and according to the rules, the highest bidder must immediately transfer the money to the winner’s account. Someone on stage bid RM310k and was then declared the new owner of the car.
The teenage boy can be heard asking the buyer to transfer the money to his girlfriend’s account as his phone ran out of battery. This prompted Achey and his co-host to intervene. The comedian asked the boy to think carefully about his decision as it involved a large sum of money. “This kind of thing should not be taken lightly. I want you to really think about this,” said the celeb. The teenager’s sister was then brought up on stage as the hosts believed she was the better option to keep the money safe.
The stage crew then came up to the stage to lend a power bank to the young man so that he could use his phone for the money-transferring process. Netizens praised Achey, his co-host and the organiser for their quick thinking as many commented that the money should go to the rightful owner. Others were worried that the girlfriend or even the sibling might take advantage of the money if it was in their accounts.
Thankfully all worked out in the end, although we can’t be too sure about how the couple is currently doing after this event, we do agree that any decision that involves a lot of money should not be taken so lightly.
