Actress Sharifah Sakinah has always been outspoken and unafraid of fighting back her critics. Despite being put in the spotlight many times for her provocative and “non-Muslim-like” social media posts, the 34-year-old still seems unmoved.
The actress recently shared a photo with her daughter, Anais Adha, on her Instagram account. In the post, the mother-daughter duo were posed casually on a sofa. However, what caught netizens’ attention was Sharifah’s captions. The actress cheekily wrote, “Calm your behinds, we’re still Malay. We’re not Caucasians, Africans, Arabians, K-pop, (or) Kardashians.”
According to the comments, the captions seemed to be a reference to the song “Tenangkan Bontot Anda (Calm Your Behind)” by local music group The Venopian Solitude. It’s unsure whether the captions were in regards to something or if it was a response to any criticism that Sharifah received recently. The actress was criticised previously for being too “Westernised” due to her actions and way of dressing. However, Sharifah’s words seemingly declare that the public figure is still proud of her Malay background despite the way she dresses and what she does.
The post and the captions received lots of praise from her fans and fellow entertainers. Many voiced their support for the local star, saying that her honest personality is refreshing and she should ignore the critics. However, some quipped that it’s good that the actress is still aware that she is Malay and Muslim, hoping that she’ll continue to keep that fact in mind. Some also took the opportunity to praise Sharifah’s daughter, Anais, and compliment the young girl and her hair.
