A few months ago, we saw the current state of a once-popular waterpark located in Kedah which has been abandoned since the Covid-19 lockdowns. The park was not the first tourist attraction that closed down due to the pandemic though.

Content creator @/hamqaaa posted a video recently on his channel of the famous Borneo Samariang Waterpark in Kuching, Sarawak. The post showed the current depressing state of the park after it was closed down 4 years ago.

As seen in the screenshots above, it’s evident that the once-lively waterpark has been left unattended with tall grass covering the empty outdoor parking lot, trees surrounding the area and the pool water looking dark and murky. If you didn’t know this, Borneo Samariang Waterpark was actually the first-ever waterpark in Sarawak that was opened back in 2018 and by default, this also meant that it was the state’s biggest waterpark.

According to the official Facebook page, it was said that the park would only be temporarily closed following the Covid-19 impact in 2020 but it has remained inoperative to this day. As far as we know, the Borneo Samariang Resort City is permanently closed. The video went viral with netizens, mostly Sarawakians, feeling devastated after seeing how the park was left to rot. Many started reminiscing about the times they went to the park and hope that it would reopen one day.

Although many were saddened by the video’s content, there might be a chance that the Borneo Samariang Waterpark will be revived. As reported by iloveborneo back in June of last year, the Sarawak state government proposed that the park be reopened to attract more tourists. Of course, this would not be an easy feat because the government can’t just take over the establishment as it was built on private land.

Sadly, there hasn’t been much update since the proposal but we still hope that something will be done soon so that locals and tourists will be able to enjoy the waterpark once more. Watch the video below:
