Over the weekend, pop sensation Ed Sheeran wowed over 10,000 local fans at his +-=÷× (Mathematics) Tour concert at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. However, the singer had some free time before the concert, so he went around town to try a few traditional activities, hung out with some fans and even played some badminton.

In the video shared on his Instagram, Ed showed off his batik painting skills at a batik workshop. He brought along some fans, who were also fellow fans of his favourite football club, the Ipswich Town Football Club. After trying his hands on batik making, Ed headed to a local barber to get a shave and then to a local florist to get a cheeky thank you bouquet for his security personnel.

Of course, being in Malaysia means having to also partake in a favourite pastime of many locals, badminton. The Grammy winner met up with local influencers JinnyBoy and Joseph Lee together with national badminton player Chan Peng Soon for a few rounds on the court. Despite not being a professional player, Ed’s athleticism was surprisingly on par with Peng Soon, who even praised his badminton skills. After a few rounds of badminton, Ed and Peng Soon traded jerseys, with the athlete presenting a jersey from his badminton academy, CPS Badminton Academy and Ed giving Peng Soon a jersey from Ipswich Town F.C..

JinnyBoy and Joseph also introduced the singer to Yee Sang, a traditional dish served during Chinese New Year. Since Ed’s Kuala Lumpur concert happened to fall on the same day as Chap Goh Mei, the last day of CNY, the entire team took the final opportunity to lou sang (toss Yee Sang) before the concert. The two content creators also shared a video of what went down during the lou sang session, including when they taught Ed the meaning behind the dish.

Many local fans were glad that the singer enjoyed his time in Malaysia. We hope the memories will stay with him for a long time – or at least till his next Malaysian concert.
