Hip, current and vibrant, Tiffin at the Yard has been a popular hangout and culinary haven for folks in KL. However, just last month, the urban food hub revealed shocking news. Without much fanfare, Tiffin at the Yard announced its closure, two years after the start of its journey.
Tiffin at the Yard has been catering to foodies at the iconic Sentul Depot since 2021. But, all good things must come to an end, and that was the case for KL’s culinary playground. Still, it does beg the question, especially given its sudden notice, what prompted the closure and why couldn’t Tiffin at the Yard sustain itself?
Tiffin at the Yard announced its closure on 25th January via an Instagram post. It very simply stated: “After an amazing journey at The Yard, Tiffin bids farewell to this chapter. What a ride the last 2 years have been.” The company behind the space, Tiffin did hint at another up and coming project they were working on: Semua Rasa food court at Semua House, Kuala Lumpur.
But, what exactly was the reason behind Tiffin at the Yard’s closure? In an interview with Vulcan Post, the founder of Tiffin, Adrian Yap claimed that this was an expected ending. Apparently, their tenancy at Sentul Depot was nearing its end and they had decided not to renew it. They had also informed their vendors a month in advance to ensure they were not left high and dry from the closure.
However, some speculate there may be other reasons behind it closing. While Tiffin at the Yard has received plenty of praise, not everyone was taken by it. Some have opined that the variety of food available isn’t the best while others find the offerings overpriced. As one comment to Tiffin read: “Hopefully your new chapter (will) provide more affordable prices that everyone can enjoy.”
Well, it hasn’t been an easy journey for Tiffin but as we understand, it has been rewarding in its own ways. Many will still miss their favourite go-to place, and others are clearly looking forward to seeing what else Tiffin will offer in the F&B industry.
If you loved what Tiffin at the Yard brought to the table, do check out their Semua Rasa food court this Ramadan. Hopefully it will meet your expectations and be another foodie haven for you to create new memories with your loved ones and friends.
