Chinese variety show “Ride the Wind 2024 (乘风2024)” formerly known as “Sisters Who Make Waves” is starting the season off strong! This year, they’ve invited ladies from all walks of life to nominate themselves and others to join the well-known program.
The nomination period ends on 20th February and it is a pleasant surprise to discover Malaysian singers Joey Chua (蔡卓宜), Melody Tan (陈永馨) and Crystal Ong (王雪晶) have already thrown their hat into the ring. Since their declaration, the trio have started garnering support from fans.
Joey Chua made her announcement after the release of her latest song “I Don’t Care”, on 30th January. “The biggest improvement in the past few years is not (my) singing and dancing, but confidence and courage,” she shared before tagging the show’s socials.
The 29-year-old singer also included a clip from her song’s music video featuring her dancing and singing. Previously, Joey had appeared on variety show “中国有滋味 (A Delicious Guess)” with former participants of “Ride the Wind 2023”.
As for Melody Tan, she is best remembered for her performance during the third season of “Sing! China (中国好声音)” when she caught the audience’s attention with her rendition of Wang Leehom’s “All the Things You Never Knew (你不知道的事)”.
“It has been almost 10 years since “The Voice” and I am 30 years old,” Melody mused in her Weibo post. “I have always longed for a stage where I can continue to shine, and hope to warm everyone with my singing.” Melody included clips of her time on “Sing! China”, capturing her impressive voice range.
Last but not least, 37-year-old Crystal Ong declared her intentions of participating in “Ride the Wind 2024” with a powerful self-introduction done in rap. The short video showed off the former M-Girls (四个女生) member’s 30-years of experience in the industry and what she had to bring to the variety show if chosen.
“(I’m) setting off in pursuit of (my) dreams and travels at 30,” she stated. “From my debut in 1994 to the present, thirty years have passed in vain, including singing (in) girl groups and solo. This time, I want to return to zero, to start over, and let more people see me.” Crystal also shared that she hoped to break away from her former accomplishments including her CNY songs and children tunes.
All three submissions have been acknowledged by the official socials of “Ride the Wind 2024”, much to the delight of the three ladies and their fans. However, the official participant list for the show has yet to be revealed.
Still, like their fans who’ve enjoyed the various clips the trio have put out, we’re looking forward to seeing who will make the list! Hopefully, all three will be able to strut their stuff on the stage of “Ride the Wind 2024” and dazzle the audience in the coming days!
