Matcha Eight is best known for serving premium and 100% natural sencha, matcha and hojicha ice creams. Not long after it debuted its first outlet in LaLaport BBCC in 2021, many were intrigued at this dessert parlour offering as many as 8 Japanese green tea ice cream flavours – especially Matcha lovers.
Late last year, Matcha Eight celebrated the launch of its second outlet in The Exchange TRX. Thanks to the ongoing partnership with master chef Takuji Takahashi from Kyoto, Matcha Eight recently introduced a range of new desserts that are only exclusively available at the new store.
The exclusive menu for The Exchange TRX outlet include:
- Crazy Rich Matcha with Matcha Syrup ice cream
- Traditional Warabimochi
- Matcha Zenzai
- Matcha and Hojicha Mixed Jelly
- Matcha Eight Seasonal Platter
- Matcha and Hojicha latte
- Fizzy Yuzu Matcha
- Yuzu Ice Cream
The Matcha Eight Seasonal Platter (RM88) is not only impressive to look at, each selection here is specially curated to elevate the Matcha Eight experience. Each platter comes with ukishima (Japanese steamed cake), warabimochi, jelly, plum, 2 scoops of classic ice cream of your choice and 2 drinks (cold brew/ hot tea). If you’re a dessert lover who enjoys tasting a variety of options, then the Matcha Eight Seasonal Platter is a perfect choice for 2-3 pax.
Matcha Eight explains the reason why the platter is “seasonal” is because ingredients may vary depending on the season of the year. The prep for this platter usually takes awhile, so you may want to place your order in advanced. For our choice of ice cream, we opted for Matcha Me Tonight (not as bitter) and Hojilicious (stronger taste) as we wanted a contrast taste to go with the other selections. Customers can also order the Crazy Rich Matcha flavour separately as an add on.
From the options on the platter, our favourite pairing was between the warabimochi and ice creams. The warabimochi here is very soft, and we like how the powder gets absorb when consumed with the cold dessert. If you enjoy this pairing as well, we’d recommend ordering Traditional Warabimochi (RM30) for a bigger serving. As for the ukishima, we prefer the chestnut filling as compared to the red bean filling we previously tried.
If you’re in need of a palette cleanser or simply want something refreshing, the Yuzu ice cream and Yuzu Matcha drink. The homemade yuzu ice cream is made with yuzu juice and zest, and the citrusy taste is certainly a welcome addition after consuming all the Matcha goodness.
