Skytrax, a United Kingdom-based consultancy headquartered in London that runs an airline and airport review website, recently released the results of their Top 100 World’s Best Airports of 2023 list. One would hope that our Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) would rank decent on this list but unfortunately, that was not the case.
Before we unveil the results, it’s important to note that the ranking is based on the front-line customer experience on the end-to-end journey through an airport so the data may not be 100% accurate. So where did Malaysia rank on this list? Let’s find out:
@changiairport hbu? what’s Changi to you in 1 word? 😃 #tiktoksg #fyp #anniversary #airporttiktok
As seen in the screenshot above, the country that ranked no. 1 was our neighbour Singapore’s Changi Airport followed by Doha’s Hamad International Airport in 2nd place and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport in 3rd. Unfortunately, Malaysia’s KLIA did not make it to the Top 10 Best Airports in the world. So where are we? As shocking as this may sound (or not), KLIA ranked no. 67 on this list.
We are below Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at no. 63 and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas at no. 66. We did however manage to beat out London City Airport at no. 70 and, surprisingly, Abu Dhabi International Airport at no. 87. The airport that took the bottom spot at no.100 was New Zealand’s Christchurch Airport.
The World’s Best Airports of 2023 list was then shared on Twitter where many expressed their opinions on the ranking. It seems that many agreed that Singapore deserved to be in the Top 3 spot if not No.1, complimenting the Changi Airport’s design, facilities and services. Sadly, Malaysia was not once mentioned in any of the comments so we guess there are a lot of improvements that need to be done.
As previously mentioned, the ranking is based on the front-line customer experience on the end-to-end journey through an airport so if you wish to see our airports place higher in 2024, then be sure to leave all the (honest) reviews of your experience at these airports on Skytrax’s World Airport Awards website.
